History

The Green Planet was opened in 2016 as part of the City Walk project, a mixed-use development that features retail, entertainment, hospitality, and residential spaces. The Green Planet is designed as a bio-dome, a structure that mimics the shape and function of a living organism. The bio-dome has four levels, each representing a different rainforest layer: the canopy, the midstory, the forest floor, and the flooded forest. The bio-dome houses over 3,000 plants and animals, including birds, reptiles, insects, fish, and mammals.

Tropical Rainforest in Dubai

The Green Planet is a tourist attraction and a conservation and education center. The Green Planet aims to raise awareness and inspire curiosity about the diversity and importance of tropical rainforests. The Green Planet also supports various research and breeding programs to protect endangered species and habitats. Some animals you can see at The Green Planet are sloths, toucans, parrots, snakes, frogs, spiders, butterflies, piranhas, and even a bat cave!

Points of Interest

There are many things to see and do at The Green Planet, but here are some highlights:

The Tree of Life

This is the centerpiece of the bio-dome, a giant artificial tree that supports the structure and hosts many plants and animals. You can walk around its trunk and branches and observe the different species that live there.

The Bridge

This is a suspended walkway that connects the canopy and the midstory levels. From here, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the bio-dome and see some birds and animals up close.

The Flooded Forest

This is the aquatic zone of the bio-dome, where you can see various fish and amphibians, such as piranhas, arapaimas, caimans, and poison dart frogs. You can also watch feeding sessions and learn more about these creatures.

The Bat Cave

This dark and mysterious area is where you can encounter fruit bats, scorpions, spiders, and other nocturnal animals. You can also listen to their sounds and learn how they communicate and navigate in the dark.

The Australian Walkabout

This is a new addition to the bio-dome, where you can meet some of the most iconic animals from Down Under, such as kangaroos, wallabies, sugar gliders, and cockatoos. You can also interact with them and feed them under the supervision of the staff.

The Vertical Garden

This wall of plants covers an area of 25 square meters and displays more than 200 species of flora. The vertical garden is beautiful and functional, as it helps regulate the temperature and humidity of the bio-dome.

The Petting Zoo

Is where you can interact with some of the friendly animals at The Green Planet. You can feed and touch some of them, such as tortoises, hedgehogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas.
